Mediology offices-One of le leading Media offices in Johannesburg recently had a complete interior upgrade.
Recently, mediology, one of South Africas leading, full service media communications agencies in Johannesburg, commissioned Brandon Botha Design to enhance their offices’ interior décor to continuously ground and inspire their staff within.
Ana Oxlee-Moore, Mediology founder and managing director is one of South Africa’s foremost experts and authorities in media strategy. With over twenty years experience in the advertising industry, she has amongst other achievements, held top positions in leading global agencies such as Saatchi and Saatchi, McCann Erickson and Herdbuoys McCan.
Mediology opens its doors in 2006 and has seen huge growth, winning major clients such as De Beers, Southern Sun, Incolabs, The SA Jewelry council, Edu-Loan, Pharma Natura and Food Corp.
The brief was to create an energetic, unique and dynamic space to align with the Mediology brand. Mediology is a fast growing company that specializes in media strategy, planning and implimentation . The client needed the space to be vibrant and colourful and to inspire staff and clients alike and to create a positive, carefree environment with a strong professional edge.
Interior Design
Brandon Botha design created a neutral white canvas throughout the entire space and punctuated this with bursts of vibrant colour. They needed the neutrality of white to allow for the colour to be the hero, the white being the supporting act. In order to ground the schemes and also retain a sense of maturity we specified a browner timber flooring as to not compete with the colour range. This flooring was taken through all the public areas, whilst the meeting rooms and offices were treated with a more somber, sober, charcoal coloured carpet. This was once again specified to ground the space and not compete with the colour range used. Darker browns and charcoal/blacks can be fantastic supporting acts to a brighter colour spectrum.
An emphasis was placed on a positive, almost childlike quality in the premises that induced an element of play in the person experiencing it. The designer was very conscious of the fact that this was supposed to be a playful space but that it was also a professional working environment. He balanced the more playful, colourful elements like the branding and artwork with more structured, simplified elements, like the contemporary white furniture specified throughout the space. He also used floating bevelled mirrors in three major areas to visually expand the space and create a subtle hint of elegance.
To create an entirely unique environment Brandon Botha Design worked closely with Sarah Laban and Joey Carapichano, a wonderfully talented Hamburg based illustrator and graphic artist team called EO (www.helloeo.com). They translated the brief into 5 energising , colourful and entirely unique artworks for the Mediology meeting rooms and public areas as well as developing new logos for Mediology and MIX digital, a subsidiary of the company. This collaboration showed how successful a combination of disciplines can be in providing a client with a solid, creatively stimulating result.
Conclusion
The Designer added that the clients input into this process was crucial in getting to a final creative decision on all elements. The client was involved deeply, ranging from choosing flooring to artwork generation and provided an indepth contribution to the finest detail. We find that this kind of client/designer collaboration can often result in the most exciting interiors.
